My Story

Bonjour a tous! Let me tell you, I never would have imagined this: being a member of Wycliffe, heading out to Cameroon for two years, and I’ll let you in on something- I'm all manners of excited and terrified at the same time! Only God could plan something like this! But let me give you a little history as to how He brought me to this place in my life.

From a young age I started serving- helping out in nursery, teaching Sunday School, Awana, Bible Studies, community outreach, serving at hospitals and nursing homes, neighborhood outreaches, serving at homeless shelters, volunteering at libraries and teaching kids from different countries. Remember those last two because they really come in handy later!

All of these opportunities climaxed when I went on a missions trip to France, and I realized that my passion for teaching children and love for working with people from different cultures was a gift God. For many years I spent each summer working in France with the urban and Muslim children, helping the struggling churches there, and the last year I was there I spent it at print shop for Bibles and Literature in French. I was sure God was calling me to France- I knew the language, I had the contacts, I knew the people.

But God surprised me. In August 2010, my last semester at San Diego Christian College before I graduated with a Biblical Studies/Intercultural Studies Degree, I found an opportunity through Wycliffe Bible Translators. The position- Assistant Librarian at Rain Forest International School in Yaoundé, Cameroon, Africa. And guess what language they speak? French! God sure knows what He’s doing!

I knew I wanted to be a missionary overseas, yet never saw myself doing translation work, so when I saw this Librarian position I was thrilled! Then I learned that one of the major reasons missionaries leave the field is because they don’t have teachers and schools nearby to support their families. In a way, I get the best of both worlds- I get to do what I love (working with books and with kids and pouring God’s love and truth into their lives) and I would be helping the parents who are doing the translation work for the Bible-less and unreached people groups of this world!

But I can’t do it by myself- I need help. Prayer, first and foremost, and also pledges of financial support.

For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works,
which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.
